Turn the motor by hand use a wrench on the bolt to the crank pulley 45 to 90 degrees and see if the starter will engage the flywheel and turn the motor.

The alternator plug looked and was shaped the same but the wires did totally different things. Is it the same for my 92? In order to test the connection, hold a circuit tester lead on the starter wire. Did the motor have oil? Once he replaced the alternator with the right one it has been fine. I did not remove the head when I replaced the chain, so I didn't see the valves. Last choice is ask a wrecking yard. Look at the wire to make sure that it is not cracked or split. If you can see it and compare its best. Clean the posts and try to start the car. Did it make any odd noises before the chain broke?
