When I called the dealership later that day to see if they had a chance to diagnose the problem the service guy I talked to said he hadn't looked at it, but was positive it was the fuel pump due to the amount of them they have had to replace. If this part has this type of failure, that appears to be well known to them, then it should be recalled and fitted with the retrofit. This means they know the current method of mounting on engine block is a design defect. The fuel filter as you face the windshield from the front of the truck , is on the right side of the motor, a round 'can' looking contraption. The dealerships are very aware of it and are now replacing them with the new style that seem to not have the problems of the pre-2005's. The consumer stated the vehicle had to be towed. As I approached near edge of embankment with no steering or rapid braking, I was able to refire motor for about 5 seconds which gave me power steering back and I was able to avert going off of a steep embankment, and avoided accident.
There are drop-offs with narrow shoulders or no shoulder as in my case because of construction along hwys in my area. The quad cab with real 4 doors is plenty of room for anything or anyone you may carry. I have had to replace both side U joints covered under warranty after 75,000 miles. Since this is a re-engineering of the fuel delivery system that they know is defective and because losing fuel stops the engine creating an extreme hazard for such a large vehicle, Dodge should be recalling trucks with this configuration immediately to prevent injury and remedy an obvious defective design.
There was no notification of the problem from Dodge warning of this possibility. My dealer's service dept is great, and they gave me a ride home 40 mi. I keep up with the repairs it needs like the tie rods, linkage, steering, ball joints, u joints etc, that's probably why i havnt had to many problems. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer who replaced the transfer fuel pump. When it went out I was driving and had no prior warnings that it was going out or was bad. I've replaced a couple of u-joints and would recommend putting new joints with zirk fittings in them if you should need to.
The Bosch Common rail injectors are extremely susceptible to small debris, Water and poor… When you open the hood, walk around to the driver's side fender and lean over it. Amazing Trucks — it is black lifted aftter market tail lights and 34inch bfg at ko's. I don't know how Ram has gotten a bad rap about transmissions. Primary Use: Utility towing boats, transporting cargo, etc. I currently drive the truck as a daily driver and tow from time to time. I will definitely buy another Ram like this when the time comes.
It was a very scary situation on the hwy and in the middle of the intersection. Now at only 134,000 miles the front universal joint needs fixed replaced and the hub assembly is seized on. If you are thinking of buying a Ram pickup I would highly recommend them. Dealership said the diesel fuel transfer pump went bad which they said was a very common problem. When the pump failed, the engine had no way to get fuel up from the fuel tank.
I later found out from dealership personnel that this part has a history of going out and that the factory will not allow the part to be replaced but requires a retro fit of a different system to solve the problem. The fold up rear seats are a great feature and the metal brackets make it easy hook up for a baby seat in the back. Have always kept up with regular check ups. Lost all power to steering and brakes creating very difficult to control vehicle. The Cummins engine performs great at 130,000 miles. Dealer would not replace failed part and instead put whole new pump assembly inside fuel tank.
Better Then A 2 Wd Gas Truck — not sure why thay whould make a 2 wd diesel it will get stuck easy but on the road it will haul ass no repairs yet,lots of fun on wet pavement and road raceing, drifting,fairly cheap to double the power reprograming Primary Use: Utility towing boats, transporting cargo, etc. This is a very common problem and service departments admit it and is widely documented on the internet, why has a recall not been issued. I checked with the dealership to see if my transfer pump had been replaced with the new style pump and was told no that it been replaced with the old style that have all the problems. Four, vehicle can lose power in the middle of an intersection when making a turn in front of oncoming traffic as it did in my case. It has had nearly zero repairs over the many years I have owned it.
I also plow snow in the winter time with it. If the truck has a low gear ratio that would make it worse than normal, If you keep it under 2000 rpm on the hwy it will probaby get close to 20 mpg but you will be going about 60 mph. They will not even acknowledge that this part is a problem even though they will not allow dealerships to replace it. This is the best pickup I've owned of many for my Colorado ranch. In my case, I have had the truck serviced with the same dealer since it was new and they never warned me about this, but clearly are aware of this problem.
Fuel lift pump stopped working and truck cut off while going 55mph leaving a 6000lb truck with no power steering or power brakes. The fuel mpg is 21mpg hwy and in my f150 was 16mpg hwy. Primary Use: Utility towing boats, transporting cargo, etc. . Disconnect the electrical plug on the front of filter housing. The Trailer tow mirrors are a must if your going to tow.
Truck had around 54K miles. Brought it back next morning and told needed new lift pump and would keep it overnight. Truck restarted, and I continued on because in rural area. Also said it was a possibility that it ruined the injector pump because it was not receiving fuel from the transfer pump. Primary Use: Commuting to work The Almost Perfect Truck — this truck is great because its the heavy duty version with the Cummings turbo diesel. Once I upgraded the transmission and have it leveled this truck will ride better.
