There had been mods that disable Hunger Checks, though arguably they were not stable. The Countess calls… An array of characters to play as and different defenses and modules, from defense lasers and missiles, to auto docs and area of effect traps, its definitely got variety on its side. Set up as another dungeon on the map, it can be integrated into an ongoing campaign you may be running, or set as available from the beginning of a new adventure. The Farmhand is perhaps the most entertaining of them, because the sprite frames for some of their abilities strongly suggest that they are not entirely aware of what has happened to them. This is perhaps the most significant hint that Red Hook Studios has run out of ideas. The player can only just keep trudging through, trying to earn as many crystals and other rewards as possible.
The Jeweller only takes Crystal Shards as payment for selling Trinkets that obviously either incorporate the Crystals in their make-up. The Husks have the core of their bodies made up of Crystals, which shine through their orifices. Such a method of progress can seem very crude to players who have expected more sophistication from the gameplay of Darkest Dungeon. Instead of rooms and corridors, there are only two types of places where the party would be: the battlefield, or a sanctuary. Not to mention the fact that Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild are two of the greatest games I've ever played. I almost think they need to go back to the drawing board and come up with a Darkest Dungeon 2 rather than continue to try and produce more content for the current game. New Quirks, with unique and powerful effects! They also further reinforce the impression that Red Hook Studios is running out of ideas for game content, even from the aural perspective.
In something akin to Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds, aliens have crash landed on Miller's farm on the outskirts of the Hamlet. How about a stay in a farmhouse upon a blasted heath with four of your closest adventurepals, fending off waves of millhands twisted by a terrible comet? Oh you like these characters? What they made is very much a reminder and a stark highlight of how much of the gameplay in Darkest Dungeon is about grinding. These Hallowed Grounds The Color of Madness brings a host of new content along with it. You will fight wave after wave of enemies, most of them new, until you have killed a set number of them. I'd say the rng aspect is pretty subjective, as some people do enjoy the sheer unfairness of the game, though it is a very common complaint. Another piece of code checks who has just attacked the wearer of the Trinket, and applies certain properties if the attacker is of a certain enemy group. The Endless Harvest mode adds perpetual, challenging content fit for veterans, and builds up across a playthrough well enough to entice novices as well. They are back and still as unpleasant as ever. The comet is a good reason. All prose aside, however, Red Hook Studios once more delivers on atmosphere and ambiance that easily sweeps you away.
