Here's a pic of me and Mickey Free back in the day. He joined Toto full-time as the replacement for original bassist David Hungate the following year, and outlasted both of his brothers in the line-up, a run that went unbroken until his enforced retirement from performing in 2007. Toto reconstituted for benefit tours in 2010 and 2011, the prelude to a more lasting reformation that includes brother Steve. I told him gene is an amateur compared to Mike porcaro. The album will be released in Japan first.
Hi, Mike Porcaro is releasing a live album in memory of his brother Jeff. Toto were tempted back for bouts of gigging, and recorded Falling In Between in 2006 for the Frontiers label. He was instrumental in getting my Bro. With his hands spanning either end of his 5-stringer he played with such intent, musicality and taste that one would be hard pressed to find a more competent, confident or capable keeper of the low end. I believe Glenn also joined the all-star band with Rosanna and Africa.
Steve Porcaro left Toto in 1987 to continue working on film and television scores. In September 2012 Classic Rock reported that Porcaro had become confined to a wheelchair, and he died at his home in Los Angeles on March 15, surrounded by his family. Brotherly Love — Mike Porcaro is a reminder that like his father Joe and brothers Jeff and Steve, Mike is more than just a great musician; he is someone who always brings something more — his musical self and a consistently creative spirit — to the music. . He retired from performing in 2007, and released his debut solo album, Brotherly Love, in 2011. My friend who is a guitar players says that I am over rating Mike porcaro, and that for example gene simons is a bassist of the same caliber.
Gene saw him and helped get him the gig as guitar player and front man for Shalamar. Mindfields 1999 and Through The Looking Glass 2002 saw Toto slipping towards the kind of stately semi-retirement beloved of the rock aristocracy. Mickey was in my old band that opened shows for Kiss. He met keyboard player David Paich on one such session, and the pair joined with brother Steve, Hungate, guitarist Steve Lukather and singer Bobby Kimball to form Toto in Los Angeles in 1977. Now that music is for Mike. The album was originally released January in Japan, but is now getting a release.
Joe, who is still going strong at 84, played with Frank and Nancy Sinatra, Pink Floyd, Madonna, the Monkees and Stan Getz. Unfortunately, when numbing sensations in those hands resulted in him having to tape his fretting hand to the neck of his bass in order to play, it was obvious Mike had a problem. . . .
